Getting around FAO
Faro is, in ANA’s own words, “one of the main leisure airports in Portugal” — the gateway to the Algarve, open since 1965 and expanded once, in 2017, with a €32.8 million project that grew its single terminal to 93,120 m² and raised its capacity to 3,000 passengers an hour. 2025 was the airport’s first year above 10 million passengers, in its 60th-anniversary year, connecting the Algarve to 22 countries and 77 destinations through 33 airlines — with the UK supplying 46% of all traffic. ANA itself points to a sign of easing seasonality: winter traffic more than doubled between 2015 and 2025. Several daily buses link the terminal to Faro’s Bus Station in the city, and Flixbus runs a direct coach service to the airports of Lisbon and Porto.
