Getting around IBZ
Ibiza Airport is run by Aena and served 9,138,224 passengers in 2025 through a single terminal, completed in 1973 on the site of the original Es Codolà military airfield — the same runway opened to international traffic with round-the-clock operation back in July 1966. Aena itself describes the airport’s demand as fluctuating sharply through the seasons, and two of its own published facts show exactly how much: the airport’s own opening hours run 6:00–0:00 in winter but 24 hours in summer, and the authorised taxi fleet grows from 69 cars year-round to 139 between June and September. The airport also serves Formentera — 95% of everyone travelling to or from either island passes through it — though the single highest source of passengers is domestic traffic with Barcelona, Madrid and Palma de Mallorca. There is no train or tram; getting in means the Alsa AERO bus network, the taxi rank, a car-hire desk or the terminal’s own drop-off car park.
