Inside each terminal

Check-in, security, the station link and how to change terminals — verified against the airport's own pages.

Terminal

73,282 square metres over three floors and a basement, built in Punta Caucedo after the government closed the old General Andrews airport downtown in the 1940s — and rated by its operator as having the best runway in the Caribbean. JetBlue, Arajet, American, Delta and Copa lead the ten busiest airlines, per the country’s civil aviation authority. A new $250-million terminal is under construction on the same site, targeting 2028.

Check-in

Arrive three hours ahead — the airport’s own advice — and check in online, at the airline counter, or at a self-service kiosk where the airline offers one. Migración and customs come after check-in and security.

Security

Liquids in hand luggage follow the standard rule: containers up to 100 ml, ten of them at most, one litre total, inside a single transparent 20x20 cm bag — with an exception for medicine and baby food, and for duty-free liquids bought within the last 48 hours in a sealed retailer bag.

Changing terminals

One building, no inter-terminal transfer needed — but the airport itself is inconsistent about naming its two halves: VIP lounges call them “Terminal A” and “Terminal B”, shops call them “Ala Sur” and “Ala Norte”, and the rental-car desks sit “next to Terminal Norte”. No source ties these labels together, so treat them as separate directions rather than one map.

Accessibility

Dedicated wheelchair lanes, access ramps, and priority migration and customs lanes for passengers with disabilities, older travellers and those with infants — arranged through the airline. A 24-hour Ministry of Public Health medical post sits on the first floor arrivals area, with a pharmacy and a lab on the second floor.
