Getting around SKG
Thessaloniki "Makedonia" is Greece's second-busiest airport and one of 14 regional airports run by Fraport Greece. Its terminal is one connected complex that the airport itself labels Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, the result of a 34,100 m² expansion that raised check-in counters from 30 to 44 and departure gates from 16 to 24. There is no train or metro to the terminal: three bus lines (1X/1N, 79, 2X) leave from the Arrivals area, the official taxi rank sits between the two terminal halves, and six car parks (P3–P8) face the building with no advance booking required. In 2025 the airport handled a preliminary 7.98 million passengers, up 8.2% on 2024. Since 12 October 2025, the EU's new Entry/Exit System (EES) has been phasing in at the border, and the airport is warning of longer waits on both arrivals and departures.
