Getting around ALC
Two things explain almost everything about this airport. The first is where it stands: Aena places it nine kilometres southwest of Alicante, inside the municipality of Elche — which is why the official taxis wear the Elche coat of arms and a green stripe rather than anything from Alicante. The second is who uses it: around 85% of the traffic is international, arriving mostly from the United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Norway, with Barcelona, Madrid and Mallorca leading the domestic routes. In 2025 that added up to 19,950,394 passengers across 126,081 operations, in a single passenger building that Airports Council International rated the best in Europe in its size category two years running. What the airport does not have is a platform: no train, no tram at the door. The C-6 bus does that job, running every day of the year to the centre of Alicante, calling at the railway station, and meeting the Costa Blanca tram-train at Luceros — the line north to Benidorm and Dénia.
