Getting around AMS
Schiphol becomes much easier to read once you stop treating Departures 1, 2 and 3 as separate terminals. They are check-in halls inside one branching terminal building: rows 1–8 are in Departures 1, rows 9–16 in Departures 2 and rows 17–32 in Departures 3. From those halls, signs lead through security towards the airport’s piers. Schiphol Plaza is the landside hinge of the building; the railway platforms are directly below it, while buses and the official taxi rank are outside. Trains reach Amsterdam Centraal in 17 minutes, with eight Sprinter services per hour. Schiphol recorded 68.8 million passengers in 2025.
