Getting around BHX
Birmingham has run every arrival and departure through one terminal since 2011, when a £13m project merged what had been Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 into a single building. The Civil Aviation Authority counted 13.66 million terminal passengers in 2025, 6.3% up on the year before. Right outside sits Birmingham International station on the West Coast Main Line — reached from the terminal by the Air-Rail Link, an automated monorail that is free to ride and takes under two minutes — while the X1 bus, run mostly by National Express West Midlands, threads on toward the NEC and Coventry. A single No1 Lounge covers every passenger regardless of airline, and both of the airport’s nearest hotels, ibis and Novotel, sit within a couple of minutes’ walk of the doors.
