Getting around CGN
Cologne Bonn Airport takes its name from the two cities it serves, and its own facts page explains why it matters beyond passengers: it is the only German airport where UPS, FedEx and DHL each run their own express hub, and it lists its operating time as 24 hours. Terminal 1, opened in 1970, and Terminal 2, opened in 2000, sit on either side of the airport’s own ICE railway station — within walking distance of both buildings — where S-Bahn, regional and bus lines call around the clock and an express bus runs to Bonn’s main station. In July 2026 Skytrax audited CGN for the first time and awarded it a 4-Star Regional Airport Rating, singling out the new central security checkpoint and the modernised gate areas of Terminal 2. More than 30 airlines fly to around 120 destinations from here, and both terminals carry the two-city story into their own redesign: Terminal 1’s airside corner “stars” reference Bonn and Cologne, while Terminal 2’s new interior runs the blue Rhine through its centre as a design motif.
