Getting around GDN
Gdańsk has carried the name Lech Wałęsa since May 2004 — the Gdańsk shipyard electrician who led the 1980 strike that won recognition for Solidarity and received the 1983 Nobel Peace Prize for it. Its operating company is jointly owned by the three Tricity municipalities, Gdańsk, Sopot and Gdynia, together with the Pomeranian Voivodeship and Poland’s state airports enterprise — and by its own count it is the third-busiest airport in Poland and an auxiliary airport for Warsaw. Two terminals split the traffic: T1 (opened 1997) mainly serves flights outside the Schengen area, while T2 — built for Euro 2012 and expanded twice since, most recently with a 2019–2022 western pier — mainly handles Schengen flights and sits right beside the railway station, reachable through a covered footbridge. In 2025 the airport handled 7,393,016 passengers, up more than 10% on 2024, across 98 scheduled routes to 27 countries.
