Heathrow’s geography explains most of its transfer rules. Terminals 2 and 3 form the central campus between the two runways, sharing the Terminals 2 & 3 rail station and the Central Bus Station; Terminal 4 sits south of the southern runway, on its own Elizabeth line and tube stations; Terminal 5 anchors the western edge with a dedicated M25 spur. That spread is why the airport runs a free travel zone: trains between the three station groups cost nothing (tap contactless or take a transfer ticket from the machines), the H30 bus rounds the Cargo Area between T4 and T5 for free, and the one-way tube loop means the T4 Underground stop is reached via Hatton Cross. The shaded outlines are the four passenger terminals in service today, their names checked by us against the airport’s own guides; among the buildings we deliberately leave unlabelled is the former Terminal 1, which OpenStreetMap still draws but which no longer serves passengers.
