Inside each terminal

Check-in, security, the station link and how to change terminals — verified against the airport's own pages.

Terminal 1

AAI’s current chart and terminal directory classify T1 as domestic. Chennai also has domestic T4, but the airport does not publish a current carrier-by-building table.

Check-in

Confirm T1 on the booking or with the airline before arrival; flight displays identify the live counter once you are inside.

From the train & tram station

The elevated walkalator reaches Airport Metro station; entrance B is the terminal side, while entrance A leads toward Tirusulam suburban station.

Changing terminals

Use the covered walkalator network or the free battery vehicles and courtesy coaches between the domestic and international terminals; AAI publishes no dependable journey time.

Accessibility

Ask your airline for a wheelchair when booking or at its airport counter. AAI lists step-free ramps, Braille and audible lift signals, accessible toilets and a paid ambulift.

Terminal 2

This is Chennai’s integrated international terminal. AAI completed the migration of 26 airlines into the building in July 2023, and its current documents still identify T2 as international.

Check-in

International departures use T2; consult the airline or flight displays for the exact counter rather than following an old T3/T4 guide.

From the train & tram station

Airport Metro is on the city side of the terminal row, connected by walkalator and electric buggy; Blue Line trains run towards Chennai Central.

Terminal 4

T4 is domestic in every current AAI operational source checked. That is the important correction: historical pages calling it international describe the pre-T2 arrangement.

Check-in

Domestic flights may use T1 or T4. AAI does not provide a trustworthy airline split, so confirm T4 on the ticket before choosing a drop-off point.

From the train & tram station

The same covered walkalator system links T4 with Airport Metro, the two multi-level car parks and the other passenger buildings.
