Inside each terminal

Check-in, security, the station link and how to change terminals — verified against the airport's own pages.

Terminal 2

Manchester's main terminal: every airline apart from Ryanair departs from here — 47 airlines, and about four flights in five on our departure board. The 2021 extension doubled the terminal's size, and the original half is being refurbished to match it.

Check-in

A single check-in hall organised in lettered zones; security sits in the middle of it, between zones D and E.

Security

Departure security is Security West, between check-in zones D and E. Every lane uses next-generation scanners, and security staff are trained on hidden disabilities — the Sunflower lanyard is accepted in all lanes, not just the assisted one.

From the train & tram station

The railway station and tram stop sit between the two terminals, about a 10-minute walk away. Lifts, escalators and moving walkways link the station to the building along the covered Skylink walkway.

Changing terminals

Terminal 3 is a 5-to-15-minute walk, with moving walkways along parts of the route. There are no direct transfer facilities between the terminals.

Accessibility

Assisted Travel reception is in the check-in area, and there is an Assisted Travel lounge in the departure lounge. Three Changing Places facilities: behind zone F at check-in, near the food-hall seating in the departure lounge, and at arrivals next to the Assisted Travel lane.

Terminal 3

Ryanair's terminal — no other airline flies from it. The building itself has been open for decades; what changed on 5 March 2026 is that the entrance and security hall of the closed Terminal 1 were rebranded as part of Terminal 3.

Check-in

Check-in is through the Terminal 3 Departures entrance — which, in the airport's own words, “was previously known as Terminal 1 Departures A”.

Security

The security hall is the former Terminal 1 hall, part of Terminal 3 since 5 March 2026. All lanes use next-generation scanners, and the Sunflower lanyard is accepted in every lane.

From the train & tram station

The closest terminal to the railway station and tram stop: about a 5-minute walk along the covered Skylink walkway, with lifts, escalators and moving walkways.

Changing terminals

Terminal 2 is a 5-to-15-minute walk, with moving walkways along parts of the route. Ryanair does not provide transfer services: connecting means collecting your bags and checking in again.

Accessibility

Assisted Travel reception is in the check-in area, and there is an Assisted Travel lounge in the departure lounge. The Changing Places facility is airside, opposite gate 52 and next to the lounges.
