A $198 million, 250,000 sq ft building that opened on March 16, 2011 as the first stage of LPIA's redevelopment — built around what the airport calls "the most sophisticated and complex baggage system ever installed at a U.S. preclearance facility." Post-security roof-top patios and Bahamian-centric retail and art set the tone the rest of the airport followed.
55 check-in counters. Security and US Customs open at 6AM; arrive at least three hours before a US-bound departure.
US Customs and Border Protection preclearance: every US-bound passenger completes American immigration and customs here, in Nassau, before boarding — so landing in the United States afterwards is treated as a domestic arrival. TSA PreCheck, Mobile Passport Control, Global Entry and Automated Passport Control kiosks are all offered to speed the process.
Accessible parking in every short-term lot, elevators and escalators at each transition level, and family/handicapped restrooms throughout. Wheelchair assistance goes through the airline in advance; the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Lanyard flags a passenger who may need more time, though it does not by itself fast-track anyone.
