Getting around SEN
London Southend traces back to a 1914 War Office landing ground and became a municipal airport in 1935, but the airport you fly from today was rebuilt in March 2012 — a single terminal, 90 metres longer than before, opened by the Secretary of State for Transport. What sets it apart from every other regional UK field is what sits directly across the covered walkway: Southend Airport station, opened in 2011 the same year easyJet signed the ten-year hub deal that still defines the route map, putting Greater Anglia trains 100 steps from the terminal door and London Liverpool Street 52 minutes away. Passenger numbers reflect it — 719,513 through the terminal in 2025, up 150% on 2024 by the CAA’s own count, which is the statistic behind the airport’s “fastest growing” claim. Four official car parks (renamed Superior, Premium, Budget and Standard in July 2026) ring the terminal within a few minutes’ walk, and the Holiday Inn next door opened the same year as the terminal itself.
