Getting around SOF
Sofia Airport is built around two separate terminal buildings from very different eras. Terminal 1 is the original, renovated in 2000 on a 15,000 m² footprint for 1.8 million passengers a year — wrought-iron chandeliers and stone mosaics from its early-20th-century construction, used today by low-cost and charter carriers. Terminal 2 opened on 27 December 2006 with capacity for 2.6 million passengers a year, was expanded north in 2013, and holds a 242 m pier with 7 jet bridges across 8 levels. Since April 2021 neither building is run by the state company that built them: the concession passed to SOF Connect AD. The Sofia Airport metro station sits at the end of line M4, which shares 13 of its 20 stations with line M1 — one €0.80 ticket covers the whole network, with no separate airport fare.
