Tenerife has two airports — is this the one I want?

This page covers Tenerife Sur (TFS), the airport in the south of the island, in the tourist area — Aena’s own history page explains it was built because the older Los Rodeos airport (today Tenerife Norte, TFN) "did not meet technical requirements due to adverse weather conditions". TFS opened to domestic traffic on 23 October 1978 and to international flights from 2 November that year, and Aena describes most of its traffic today as international, led by the UK and Germany.

Is there a direct way to reach the other Tenerife airport?

Yes. Titsa’s line 343 "runs directly between Tenerife Norte and Tenerife Sur Airports with no stops and in just 50 minutes", picking up at the terminal, floor 0, arrivals. It is the only bus route on Aena’s page built specifically to link the two airports rather than a town in between.

Will I hear an announcement if my boarding gate changes?

No. Aena states plainly that this particular airport skips loudspeaker calls for gates and gate changes altogether, so the printed departure board carries the only word that counts — worth remembering if you are used to airports that page you.

How early should I get to the airport?

Accepted Answer

It depends where you are headed: Aena asks non-Schengen travellers to be at the check-in desk three hours before departure, and cuts that to two hours for anyone flying domestically or within Schengen. Desks sit on the ground floor, and the screens — not a fixed airline row — say which one is yours.

How do I get to Tenerife Sur without a car or a taxi?

The airport’s own "Getting there" menu lists only three ways in — car, bus and taxi, with no train or tram option. Titsa runs five routes to the terminal: line 343 to Tenerife Norte, line 10 from Santa Cruz, line 40 from Costa Adeje/Los Cristianos, night line 711, and line 415 from El Fraile/San Isidro, all stopping at floor 0, arrivals.

Where does lost property end up?

Email tfs.objetosperdidos@aena.es with the date, where you think you lost it, and a precise description — Aena says the office is open 10:00 to 22:00, on floor 1 of the departures hall, and that items can’t be shipped or held indefinitely, so it’s worth claiming them in person once you get the confirmation email.
