Inside each terminal

Check-in, security, the station link and how to change terminals — verified against the airport's own pages.

Main Terminal Building

Split into Area A (non-Schengen, gates A1–A27) and Area B (Schengen, gates B1–B31). Both the airport’s own Metro Line 3 station and its Suburban Railway station open directly onto it, and the Sofitel Athens Airport stands just opposite. At Entrance 3, Departures Level, a permanent exhibition displays 172 archaeological pieces unearthed nearby during the airport’s own construction, on show since 2003.

Check-in

If you don’t yet have a boarding pass for a connecting flight, the Check-In Hall is on the Departures Level (1); the Baggage Reclaim Area for anything not through-checked is on Level 0.

Security

The airport’s active advisory (from 30 March 2026, when the EU’s Entry/Exit System went live for non-EU travellers) recommends arriving at least 2.5 hours before departure; the general guidance elsewhere on the site is 2 hours.

From the train & tram station

Both the Metro (Line 3, Blue) and the Suburban Railway have their own station built into the airport, side by side with the terminal.

Changing terminals

The Satellite Terminal (gates C15–C40) is reached only through an underground link: follow the signage for gates C15–C40 at the corridor next to check-in counter 70 to the escalators or lift, then the moving walkways — about 15 minutes door to door.

Accessibility

On-ground assistance for disabled and reduced-mobility passengers is provided at no extra charge under EU Regulation (EC) No. 1107/2006; book through your airline, ideally when you book your flight and at least 48 hours ahead.

Satellite Terminal Building

A separate building for gates C15–C40, used for both Schengen and non-Schengen departures depending on the flight. It has its own Goldair Handling lounge, open daily 06:00–22:00.

Changing terminals

The only way in is the underground link from the Main Terminal: escalators or a lift from the corridor by check-in counter 70, then moving walkways — allow about 15 minutes.
