Getting around BEG
VINCI Airports has run Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport since taking over operations on 22 December 2018, under a 25-year concession signed with Serbia that commits the group to a €732 million development plan — a new runway, extended piers and more aircraft stands among them. Serbia sits outside the EU and Schengen Area, and the airport’s passport control shows it: e-Gates only work for Serbian citizens and passengers from a short list of EU/Schengen countries plus the United States, everyone else uses a staffed booth. Since 18 June 2024 the airport has also gone “silent” — gates are announced on the terminal monitors rather than printed on the boarding pass. It is the home hub of Air Serbia, and in 2024 it crossed 8 million passengers for the first time, up more than 40 percent since VINCI took over.
