Getting around BER
BER was due to open on 30 October 2011; it finally opened nine years later, on 31 October 2020, replacing both Tegel — whose licence expired on 4 May 2021 — and Schönefeld, whose old "SXF" code passed to BER and whose buildings briefly ran on as a "Terminal 5" that the airport company decided, at the end of 2022, never to reopen. Terminal 1 is the main building, built directly over the "Flughafen BER" railway station; Terminal 2, finished in 2020 but left unused for lack of passengers, only started operating on 24 March 2022, with Ryanair as its main tenant. The two terminals sit about five minutes' walk apart via Terminal 1's arrivals level, and BER handled 26,050,740 passengers in 2025.
Under Terminal 1
The Airport Express (FEX) and S-Bahn lines S9/S85 leave from the station directly beneath Terminal 1, several times an hour.
Parking and drop-off
Ten minutes free on the right-of-way in front of T1, five multi-storey car parks, and Valet Parking that collects the car for you.
Lounges named after Berlin's old airports
BER Lounge Tegel and BER Lounge Tempelhof, both in Terminal 1, reachable from both terminals after security.
