Getting around CUN
Cancún is Mexico’s busiest airport for international arrivals and the gateway to the Riviera Maya, run by the private operator ASUR out of four terminal buildings — though only three of them, Terminal 2, Terminal 3 and Terminal 4, are checking passengers in today. Terminal 1 has been closed for a rebuild since before this was written, and ASUR’s own chief executive told investors on 24 July 2026 that he expects it back only in the fourth quarter of the year. The three working terminals split roughly by market: Volaris and VivaAerobus anchor Terminal 2 with most of the Latin American network, American, Delta and United check in at Terminal 3 alongside Spanish leisure charters, and Terminal 4 splits its own building in two — Aeroméxico alone on the domestic side, European and US low-cost carriers on the international one. In 2025 the airport carried 29.3 million passengers, down 3.5% on the year before.
