Getting around HAM
Hamburg has flown from the same Fuhlsbüttel site since 1911, and the operator’s own company portrait calls it the world’s oldest commercial airport. Two terminals sit either side of the Airport Plaza, which is more than a walkway: it holds the single central security checkpoint both buildings share, on its Level 1. The S-Bahn line S1 reaches both terminals’ arrivals halls directly and runs to Hamburg Central Station every 10 minutes, a 25-minute ride, with a change to the U1 underground one stop away at Ohlsdorf. For a faster, plannable route through security, the free Slot&Fly lane in Terminal 1 lets you book a time slot up to 72 hours ahead. A separate General Aviation Terminal, away from the main buildings, handles private jets and helicopters. Around 14.8 million passengers used Hamburg Airport in 2025.
