Inside each terminal

Check-in, security, the station link and how to change terminals — verified against the airport's own pages.

Terminal 1

By the airport’s own airline directory, Air Arabia, Salam Air, Etihad Airways and Thai AirAsia fly exclusively from Terminal 1 — Air India Express and SpiceJet also use it, but only for some of their flights, so the terminal is decided by the booking, not the carrier. This is the terminal with the Heritage Wall, an installation of carved woodwork and coloured glass built to evoke Rajasthan’s royal architecture.

Check-in

Check-in counters are in the departure area, with information screens pointing to each airline’s counter.

Security

BCAS caps hand luggage here at 7 kg to a single bag no wider than 55 by 40 by 20 centimetres, though individual carriers can trim that allowance further; a power bank has to ride in the cabin, and neither a satellite phone nor a drone is allowed in the hold or in hand luggage. International passengers clear Immigration once through the screening line.

Changing terminals

There’s no shuttle linking the two buildings, so a switch from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 means stepping outside for a taxi or an app-based cab. JAI’s transit guide advises padding the gap when that happens: three to four hours if either leg is international, two to three when the whole journey stays domestic.

Accessibility

The wheelchair assistance desk sits at the kerbside of Departure Gate 1. Confirmed carriers for the service here are Air Arabia, Air India Express, SpiceJet, Etihad Airways, Salam Air and both AirAsia codes (AK/FD).

Terminal 2

The busier terminal by carrier count — IndiGo, Air India, Star Air and Alliance Air fly from here, alongside the flights of Air India Express and SpiceJet not assigned to Terminal 1. It is also the only terminal with DigiYatra facial-recognition check-in, and the only one with a bookable lounge.

Check-in

Check-in counters are in the departure area; DigiYatra lets domestic passengers skip document checks at each step if registered in advance, with a walk-up registration kiosk at Gate 2 for those who aren’t.

Security

The same ceiling on carry-on weight applies here — 7 kg per passenger, 55 by 40 by 20 centimetres at most — plus the identical ban on satellite phones and drones in either the cabin or the hold. DigiYatra verification happens at the terminal entry gate, the pre-security E-Gate, and again at the post-security Face Pod.

Changing terminals

Getting to Terminal 1 means stepping outside for a taxi or an app-based cab — JAI runs no shuttle between them. The same padding applies in reverse: three to four hours if a leg is international, two to three when both flights are domestic.

Accessibility

The wheelchair assistance desk sits at the kerbside of Departure Gate 3. Confirmed carriers for the service here are Air India, IndiGo, SpiceJet, Star Air, Air India Express and Alliance Air.
