Getting around NMI
Navi Mumbai International Airport took its first commercial flight, IndiGo 6E460 from Bengaluru, on 25 December 2025, ten weeks after the Prime Minister’s inauguration ceremony. Everything today runs through one building, Terminal 1, built for 20 million passengers a year as the opening slice of a four-phase project designed to eventually handle 90 million — spread across 1,160 hectares, twice the footprint of Mumbai’s existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj airport across the harbour. Three carriers fly from T1 so far: IndiGo, Air India Express and Akasa Air, each listed by the airport for both domestic and international service. There is no rail link into the terminal yet — the operator describes the nearest suburban stations, Panvel and Bamandongri, as only “expected” to connect via the Harbour and Trans-Harbour lines, so taxis, app-based cabs and self-drive rentals are the way in and out for now.
