Getting around STR
Stuttgart Airport has been officially named “Manfred Rommel Airport” since 2014, after the city’s former Lord Mayor and former chairman of its own supervisory board. Four terminals share the site, with Terminal 2 handling departures only while Terminals 1, 3 and 4 handle both departures and arrivals — every level is directly connected, and the first digit of a check-in counter number always gives away its terminal. The S-Bahn stops directly below the complex, with lines S2 and S3 reaching Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof in 25 to 30 minutes; the U6 light rail calls at a separate “Flughafen/Messe” stop, a name it shares with the neighbouring Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre next door. In 2025 the airport handled 9.6 million passengers. State-owned 65% by Baden-Württemberg and 35% by the City of Stuttgart, it has flown people in and out of the region for over 100 years.
