Getting around GVA
Geneva Airport sits on the Franco-Swiss border, and it shows: the France Sector has its own road access from France — only via the Ferney-Voltaire customs road, closed to pedestrians and cyclists — and crossing between it and the International Sector requires a same-day boarding pass, even for staff at rental-car desks with no flight to catch. The railway station sits directly under the terminal, reaching Cornavin in 7 minutes with up to seven trains an hour; every train also stops there, so onward connections across Switzerland and into France need no other station. One thing has quietly changed: the free Unireso bus/train ticket the airport used to hand arriving passengers was withdrawn on 1 January 2022 — today a zone-10 ticket costs 3 CHF for 60 minutes, bought at machines by the bus stop or the CFF station. The Kiss & Fly drop-off, by contrast, is still free and open around the clock. In 2025, Genève Aéroport carried 17,848,370 passengers.
