Inside each terminal

Check-in, security, the station link and how to change terminals — verified against the airport's own pages.

International Sector

The main sector of Genève Aéroport’s single terminal building, handling every international and Swiss-domestic flight that isn’t routed through the France Sector. The railway station sits directly beneath it, and the terminal itself closes overnight from 00:00 to 04:00 for security reasons.

Security

Security control generally opens daily at 04:30 for International Sector departures (from 04:00 in summer) — half an hour earlier than the France Sector.

From the train & tram station

The CFF station sits inside the building, roughly five minutes on foot from the Departures and Arrivals levels.

Changing terminals

Passengers arriving on an international flight who want to leave via France must still clear Swiss customs first, collect luggage, go back up to the Enregistrement level and follow the “Secteur France” signs — there is no direct walk-through.

Accessibility

Public areas and car parks are fully wheelchair-accessible; where a boarding gate is reachable only by stairs, a GVAssistance agent escorts passengers according to their needs and the time available. Arrange assistance with your airline or travel agent no later than 48 hours before departure.

France Sector

A dedicated space for domestic flights to France and, for some airlines, access to the international transit zone — and the easiest way to reach neighbouring France (Pays de Gex, Divonne-les-Bains, Bellegarde, the French Jura, Ain). Passengers arriving on a French flight disembark directly here, as on a domestic flight, and can exit into either France or Switzerland.

Check-in

Departing from Switzerland on a France Sector flight: go up to the Enregistrement level and follow the “Secteur France” signs.

Security

Security control generally opens daily at 05:00 for France Sector departures (from 04:00 in summer).

Changing terminals

Moving between the France Sector and the International Sector requires a same-day plane ticket (valid for that day, +/- 1 day) — there is no pedestrian or cycle crossing. Rental-car customers without a same-day ticket must switch sectors by road, via the Ferney-Voltaire customs post.

Accessibility

From France, the sector is reached only by the Ferney-Voltaire customs road (GPS: town “Ferney Voltaire”, street “Route douanière”) — closed to pedestrians and cyclists. A rental car can be picked up or dropped off here without being a GVA passenger, but only by that same road.

Terminal 2

A separate, seasonal terminal open only on winter weekends, for charter and scheduled flights linked to the ski season in the Swiss, French and Italian Alps. Outside the winter season it is closed to the public.

Changing terminals

From Terminal 1 or the CFF station: go down to the Arrivée level, follow “locations de voitures”, exit and continue about 300 m across the pedestrian zone — Terminal 2 is directly opposite car park P51. By bus, tpg lines 10, 23, 28, 56 and 57 stop at “Tour-de-Contrôle”, right next to it.
