Getting around RIX
Riga is the busiest airport in the Baltic states and the home base of airBaltic, the Latvian flag carrier that alone carried 57.2% of the airport’s traffic in 2025 — Ryanair is a distant second at 22.8%. Every one of the 19 airlines on the airport’s own destinations filter checks in through the same single building, so there is nowhere else on the field a departing passenger could mistakenly end up. The airport served just over 7.1 million passengers in 2025, about a fifth of them connecting onward rather than starting or ending their trip in Riga. The next chapter is already visible from the car parks: the high-speed Rail Baltica line is under construction past the terminal, on its way to a station of its own — but as of today it is a building site, not a platform, so getting into town still means the airport’s own bus route, a taxi or a rental car.
